Abaco
Posted June 30th
We would have preferred an earlier onward flight in order to have a few daylight hours to find accommodation, but in fact the only flight available got us there at 6.30pm on a Friday evening…..As you can imagine, this is the worst time to try to find hotel directors to ask for donated accommodation as they will all have gone home for the weekend!
Sure enough, we couldn’t find any hotel directors or managers & so decided to phone a number we had been given just the day before leaving Exuma. We had met a lady that said she was from Abaco so we asked if she knew of any family or any church that might be able to help visiting missionaries. The lady gave us the name & ph number of one church & so we phoned up & explained our situation. The pastor was extremely helpful & set us up for 6 days in a lovely apartment just above the church. Special thanks to Pastor Chris Dean from Zion Baptist Church!
That gave us time to go around the hotels & find more donated accommodation to cover the rest of our stay. On Abaco, we found ourselves with only a few days left before the schools closed for the summer holidays, but we were still able to visit 5 schools altogether. Here are photos from one of our drug-awareness programs at Abaco Central High School—the biggest government school on the island.
