visiting Tavua
posted Nov 2nd
Whoops—we’re a bit late this time with our weekly blog! Those that read it regularly must have wondered if it had become a fortnightly blog. In fact the reason was that we made a trip to Moala in the Lau group of islands where we donated a total of 30 boxes of books among all the primary schools & kindergartens. The island has no internet connection & so we were unable to update this site during our absence.
We’ll post photos of our Moala adventures in a future blog, but for right now we have a lot of other stories & photos from Sue’s recent trip up to the towns of Tavua, Rakiraki & Ba. Here below is a photo of donating sheets from Holiday Inn to Tavua District Hospital.
As we’ve displayed a lot of distribution photos in recent blogs, (with many more to come), we’d also like to show some interesting shots of life on the buses! A journey from the capital, Suva, to Tavua takes about 4 or 5 hours so little fruit stalls & canteens have sprung up along the road to cater to hungry passengers:
Then there’s also the mobile vendors that descend on unsuspecting bus passengers whenever there’s a longer stop. There’s a lot of competition but it seems like most of them manage to sell at least some of their supplies & gain just about enough money to live another day…..
There are rules not to eat or drink on the buses, but apparently they’re not enforced!
