After visiting the schools in Naroi, we moved on to the other village schools. As Moala island has no cars, transportation was either by boat or walking. We were able to stay in a total of 4 different villages, either with the school principal’s family or with Analesi’s father’s family. (PS Analesi is a long time friend & one of our Pacific Outreach trustees).
And now for the thing that surprised us the most:
Contrary to our usual mindset that island people are rather lazy, we found that everyone on Moala was pretty busy! Each village seemed to have all kinds of things going on: fishing, farming, weaving mats, making handicrafts, boat repairs & suchlike. We hardly saw any unemployed people…..Here are some photos of various Moala village activities:
